Eichman lands D1 offer

Merrimack High School running back/defensive back Joe Eichman was scheduled to visit Bryant University on Monday, but Bryant assistant coach Ed Morrissey saved him the trip.

Morrissey extended a scholarship offer to Eichman on Saturday night. It’s the first offer Eichman has received.

“I was supposed to go down Monday to talk to Coach Perry (Bryant head coach James Perry) about it, but the NCAA passed some new rules about a (quiet) period,” Eichman said. “I’ve been there a couple times already. Once for a camp and once on a visit last winter. It’s small, but they have good football facilities. It’s one of the few schools in the Northeast with an indoor complex.”

Eichman, who will be a senior at Merrimack, is 6-feet tall and weighs 190 pounds. He has been a starter for Merrimack since early in his freshman season, when he moved into the starting lineup as a safety. He said Bryant is recruiting him to play ether running back or slot back.

Eichman said the University of New Hampshire and Central Connecticut State are among the other schools that have shown interest.

“I’m really thankful for the time Coach Morrissey took to recruit me and for whatever other opportunities may come my way,” he said.
