CHaD practice: Day 2

Notes from the second day of practice for this year’s CHaD New Hampshire East/West All-Star Game, which will be played Saturday (1 p.m. kickoff) at Wildcat Stadium on the University of New Hampshire campus:

CHaD NOTES

The East team will be without Winnacunnet running back Billy Powers for this year’s game. Powers missed time during the regular season with a torn labrum and, according to East head coach Craig Kozens, doctors told Powers it might not be a good idea to play in the game. “It’s too bad because he’s a high character, high-quality kid,” Kozens said. … The East roster has been further reduced by injuries to Kennett’s Trevor Mills (patella tendinitis) and Windham’s Hayden Wilson (ACL surgery). In addition, Winnacunnet’s Jordan Gallagher won’t play because of a family/personal issue. … West head coach Eric Brown said Milford lineman Michael Boucher and Lebanon’s Matt Eylander are among the players on his team who have stood out in practice. Eylander was scheduled to play tight end, but Brown said he will also see time at wide receiver. “It’s so different than traditional high school football,” Brown said. “You put something in and the players go ‘all right’ and it’s in. Things are progressing a lot faster than we thought.” … The West will vote on captains Tuesday. … Kozens said he really likes his stable of running backs, which includes Salem’s Charles Sibanda, Pinkerton’s Ty Hicks and St. Thomas’ Tim Bouchard. “Bouchard is one of the most well-rounded kids we’ve got.” Kozens said. “He can even long snap.” … Each team is limited to four offensive formations and had to declare it’s defensive front. Both teams will use a ’40’ or four-man defensive line. … The West will hold one practice today beginning at 9 a.m. “We were in full pads for both practices (Saturday), so we’ll taper off a bit and be in just uppers,” Brown said. “We’ll go from nine to 11, take a 20-minute break and hope to be off the field by 1:30 p.m.”
