Shrine Practice: Day 3

The New Hampshire Shrine Maple Sugar Bowl team named its captains following Tuesday’s final practice. The captains are the team’s top two fundraisers: Hollis/Brookline wide receiver Matt Simco and Milford H-Back Owen Clary; a coaches’ selection: Dover tight end Erik Stephens; an offensive player: Hollis/Brookline offensive lineman Garrett Moloney; and a defensive player: Winnacunnet middle linebacker Cory Markland. … “I think the kids did a good job selecting captains,” New Hampshire coach Pat Riberdy said. “No major surprises there.” …  Tuesday was also media day at Castleton University, which will be the site for Saturday’s game (5:30 p.m. kickoff). Shrine patients and their parents spoke to both teams before and after Tuesday’s media session. … New Hampshire went live during its morning practice and Riberdy said the team’s defense remains far ahead of the offense. “Our defense is looking really good,” he said. “To the point I was starting to feel a little nervous about our offense to be honest with you. We had to move a few pieced around. We hoped to use two units, but I don’t think we’re going to be able to do that. Some guys are going to have to go both ways. Offense is really where our main focus will be the rest of this week.” … Riberdy said offensive and defensive linemen Jack Haslam (Exeter) and Tim Schneible (Concord) are among the players expected to play on both sides of ball.
