Pinkerton earns playoff berth

Pinkerton Academy earned the final playoff spot in the Division I North/South bracket by beating Bedford 16-7 Friday night in Derry.

The Astros (6-3) received three field goals from Brandon Roy (24, 24 and 27 yards) and also scored on a 75-yard pass from quarterback Jeff Potvin to halfback Brady Day.

DIVISION I PLAYOFFS
North/South Bracket

No. 4 Pinkerton at No. 1 Londonderry
No. 3 Salem at No. 2 Goffstown

East/West Bracket

No. 4 Merrimack at No. 1 Nashua North
No. 3 Nashua South at No. 2 Exeter

Pinkerton’s win coupled with Goffstown’s 35-21 victory over Timberlane means the Astros will be the No. 4 seed and will face top-seeded Londonderry (9-0) in Saturday’s North/South semifinals. Had the Astros lost Friday’s game their season would have been over.

Bedford (6-3) was eliminated from playoff contention with the loss. A Bedford victory or a Goffstown loss would have left the Bulldogs as the North conference champions and the No. 2 seed.

Bedford’s touchdown came on a 6-yard pass from quarterback Joseph Mikol to split end Aaron Skaling with 39.5 seconds left in the half. The TD capped a 15-play, 81-yard drive.
