Notes from the first day of practice for this year’s CHaD New Hampshire East/West All-Star Game, which will be played July 17 (1 p.m. kickoff) at Saint Anselm College’s Grappone Stadium:
CHaD GAME
PRACTICE REPORT
Both the East and West teams practiced together for the first time Friday. The East worked out at St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Dover, and the West practice was moved from Bedford High School indoors to the SportsPlex in Bedford because of wet field conditions. … East team is dealing with attrition, as each roster has lost players since the original selections were made. Team selections were made later than usual this year and the game, which is typically held in June, is being played in July. “It’s a hurdle we’ve certainly had to overcome, but we still have a lot of good players,” West coach Robin Bowkett said. “We don’t have a ton of players at our outside receiver position, but we’re in a better position up front than I had anticipated. We have a pretty big offensive line.” … Rules for the CHaD East/West All-Star Game include no blitzing, five offensive formations per team and only four players may rush the punter. The game is currently scheduled to have 15-minute quarters, but there’s a possibility 12-minute quarters will be used. A final determination on the game length will be made later this week. … Bowkett said offense was the focus of his team’s first practice. “In a game like this offense is slower to pick up than defense,” he said. “Especially for kids who haven’t been in an offense like this with shotgun and no huddle. On defense you just line up and play ball.”
