Shrine Camp: Day 4

68th Shrine Maple Sugar Bowl

With two days of practice remaining before this year’s Shrine Maple Sugar Bowl, New Hampshire coach Paul Landry said the team’s defense remains ahead of its offense. “One week is a short period of time to prepare,” he said. “The defense is usually ahead of the offense, and that’s certainly true with us. The thing we need the most work on is our blocking assignments.” … Several players from smaller schools have stood out on defense, Landry said. “That group includes defensive tackle Caleb Hobbs (Mascoma), linebacker Jagger Lovely (Newport), linebacker Josh Sharron (Newport) and linebacker Thomas Johnston (John Stark). … Landry’s coaching staff includes former Exeter assistant Bruce McAllister, Thomas McCullough (Kingswood), Scott Meserve (Kingswood), Chris Sanborn (Plymouth), Thomas Stackhouse (Exeter) and Zach Stewart (Plymouth). “The coaches have made it so much easier for me,” Landry said. “They’ve been outstanding.” … The New Hampshire team took part in a cornhole tournament Tuesday night. It was coaches versus players and the team of Landry and Sanborn won the event. “The kids are still trying to pick their heads up from that,” Landry said. “It’s been fun up here. We’re having a great time.” …  New Hampshire will be the home team and will wear white for Saturday’s game, which is scheduled to start at 12:30 p.m. NOTE: Some game tickets were printed with an incorrect starting time (5:30 p.m.). … Tickets for Saturday’s game are $15 for adults and $10 for children ages 6-17 if ordered online. Children age 5 and under get in free. Tickets purchased on the day of the game are $20 for adults, $15 for children ages 6-17 with age 5 and under remaining free. Tickets can be ordered online at www.shrinemaplesugarbowl.com.
