CHaD practice: Day 5

Notes from the fifth day of practice for this year’s CHaD New Hampshire East/West All-Star Game, which will be played Saturday (5:30 p.m. kickoff) at Saint Anselm College:

EAST

Linebacker/fullback Mason Wallace (Exeter), offensive lineman Bennett Parkinson (Alvirne) and quarterback Jason Hughes (Timberlane) were selected as the East’s captains for this year’s game. “No surprises there,” East head coach Craig Kozens said. “Wallace is that one crazy guy you have on your team every year. Parkinson has been our vocal leader from the beginning, and Hughes is like the parent on the team. He makes sure everything is together and done right.” … The East used much of Wednesday’s practice to go over game situations. “Down and distance — things like that,” Kozens said. “It was clean. We’re in a good place. We’ll continue to clean stuff up on Thursday, polish on Friday and we’re there.” … The East will wear blue pants and blue shirts in this year’s game, which will feature 15-minute quarters. ,,, Kozens said special teams may be a strength for the East. “Wallace is a very, very good long-snapper, and Hughes is a good punter and kicker,” he said. “It could come down to field position.”

WEST

Linebacker Greg Stanton (Nashua North), defensive tackle Kody Palladino (Milford) and quarterback Casey Gervais (Goffstown) were named captains for the West. “They’re good kids,” West coach Paul Lavigne said. “I like the picks because we have Division I and Division II represented, and we also have offense and defense represented. … Defensive back Noah Wade (Newport)  suffered a pulled groin Wednesday. Wade was also expected to return punts. “We’re hoping by Saturday he’ll be OK,” Lavigne said. … Wade is one of three Division III players on the West roster, joining defensive end C.J. Lawrence (Newport) and outside linebacker Chris Robbins (Bow). “We did our homework on Division III and we got three good kids,” Lavigne said. “If healthy, all three will have an impact. … Lavigne’s grandson Tucker Lavigne, who played at Bedford, is playing defensive back for the West. … Londonderry head coach Jimmy Lauzon is an assistant on the East staff, but Londonderry defensive coordinator Mike Bombardier is on the West staff. Bombardier played for Lavigne when he was an assistant coach at Saint Anselm.
