IL/M took out some frustration Saturday, when it beat Newport 48-0 in a game that featured the two programs that met in last year’s Division III championship game. Newport won that contest 48-14, but the Lakers left no doubt about who the better teams was Saturday.

Running back Andrew Brothers scored four touchdowns in the first half (three in the first quarter) to help the Lakers build a 42-0 halftime lead. Brothers completed the game with 181 yards rushing on 12 carries, and intercepted a pass as well. Zach Swanson led the IL/M defense with a team-high eight tackles, and caught a TD pass from Ryan Kelly. Kelly also made each of his six point-after kicks in the first half.

IL/M raised its record to 3-0. Newport, which entered the matchup with a 13-game winning streak, dropped to 2-1.

IL/M is one of three unbeaten teams in Division III, joining Stevens and Monadnock.
