Keene lost each of its first three games, and, in the minds of many, was a sizable underdog in Friday night’s home game against unbeaten Bishop Guertin. The Blackbirds turned in  a stellar defensive performance, however, and came away with a 32-14 victory.

Marcin Maleski scored two TDs for Keene, which forced four BG turnovers (two interceptions and two fumbles). Keene’s other TDs came on a 1-yard pass from Sean Corrigan to Cullen Costa, and a 4-yard run by Cameron Wilhelm, who was moved from center to the backfield because of injuries to fullback Jamie Therrien and tailback Alex Stroshine.

“The difference between this week and our other weeks was our defensive game plan was good,” Keene coach John Luopa said. “We wanted to force them to do something they weren’t used to doing.”

The Blackbirds, who led 16-0 at halftime, improved their Division I record to 1-3. BG fell to 3-1.

Keene allowed 139 points in its first three games. BG scored 141 points in its three victories.
