CAA honors UNH’s Ellman

RICHMOND, Va. – Morgan Ellman, a sophomore kicker on the University of New Hampshire football team, was named the CAA Special Teams Player of the Week on Monday.

On a rain-soaked Rhodes Stadium grass field, Ellman’s career-long 40-yard field goal lifted UNH into a 10-10 tie at 10:07 of the fourth quarter at Elon University on Friday night, and his 35-yard field goal with 2:09 remaining capped an eight-play, 62-yard Wildcat drive that gave New Hampshire a 13-10 lead and proved to be the game-winning points.

The Wildcats, who have won three consecutive games to improve to 4-2 overall and 3-0 in the CAA, play host to No. 7 James Madison University on Saturday (noon). The game will be televised on American Sports Network and NESN Plus.

Ellman’s first point of the game at Elon punctuated UNH’s game-opening 14-play, 75-yard touchdown drive that gave UNH a 7-0 lead at 9:28 of the first quarter.

Ellman was also instrumental in forcing Elon to drive the length of field. He kicked off four times, and the Phoenix’ average starting position on those drives was the Elon 23-yard line.
