Osgood selects URI

Nashua South tight end Max Osgood gave a verbal commitment Thursday to continue his football career at the University of Rhode Island.

Osgood said URI, a member of the Colonial Athletic Association, recruited him to play tight end.

“I chose URI because it’s a great fit for me,” Osgood said. “Love campus, the size of the school. Really love the coaching staff. I feel that with hard work I can really contribute to the program. Also it’s in a very competitive conference.”

Osgood, who is 6-foot-5 and weighs 240 pounds, also plays varsity basketball and varsity lacrosse for South.

Osgood landed a scholarship offer from Bryant University last year, but Marty Fine resigned as Bryant’s head coach following the 2016 season. Bryant hired former Princeton offensive coordinator James Perry as its head coach last week.

Osgood helped Nashua South earn a Division I playoff berth last season. The Panthers lost to Exeter in the quarterfinals.

South beat Nashua North 41-35 on Thanksgiving to finish the season with a 7-4 record.
