Maine will start freshman QB

Redshirt freshman Chris Ferguson has been named the University of Maine’s No. 1 quarterback and is expected to start against the University of New Hampshire on Aug. 31, according to the Portland Press Herald.

Ferguson, who is 6-foot-4, and 220 pounds, beat out three other quarterbacks to win the starting job: junior Drew Belcher, senior transfer Max Staver and freshman Isaiah Robinson.

“I’m just excited to really get to lead the team and take this team to places it’s been before,” Ferguson told the Press Herald. “I want to get back to those places, compete for a national championship, beat UNH, be in the playoffs. This is everything I’ve dreamed about.”

Ferguson, 19, led LaSalle Academy to the Philadelphia Catholic League 4A championship in his senior season. He lives in Fort Washington, Pa.
