Horton receives CAA award

RICHMOND, Va. – Jae’Wuan Horton, a junior defensive end on the 12th-ranked University of New Hampshire football team, was named the CAA co-Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.

Horton recorded six tackles, including a sack, and two quarterback hurries as UNH defeated Georgia Southern University, 22-12, on Saturday to mark the program’s first win against an FBS school since 2009.

One of the QB hurries resulted in a fourth-quarter interception in the end zone that kept the Wildcats’ lead at 22-5 with 9:59 remaining. On the Eagles’ last possession of the game, Horton dropped quarterback Shai Werts for an 11-yard sack, which led to New Hampshire’s defense stopping Georgia Southern on fourth down and securing the victory at Legion Field (Birmingham, Ala.).

Horton shares the CAA Football co-Defensive Player of the Week award with Andrew Clyde of the University of Richmond. This is Horton’s first career CAA weekly award.
