PSU players honored by MASCAC

PLYMOUTH – Two Plymouth State University football players were named to the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Football Weekly Honor Roll for their play in Saturday’s 27-0 victory over Mount Ida.

Sophomore receiver Jacob Szulc (Concord) caught six balls for 94 yards and three touchdowns in the Panthers victory. Szulc opened the scoring by pulling in a 21-yard TD pass from junior Zack Edwards in the game’s first five minutes. The 6-2 receiver also had a pair of touchdown catches in the third quarter to put the game out of reach. Szulc currently leads PSU with 10 receptions, 182 receiving yards and five touchdowns.

Freshman kicker Jeremy Martin also earned recognition from the league. Martin had three punts for 101 yards, pinning the Mount Ida offense inside the 20-yard line all three times. He also had five kickoffs for 284 yards, a 56.8 average.

PSU currently stands at 2-0 and will open MASCAC play Saturday at Western Connecticut State University. The Colonials trailed Hartwick College 28-0 in the second quarter, before outscoring the Hawks 48-19 the rest of the way to pull out a 48-47 victory in their only game of the year. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m.
