Johnson named top NE-10 Rookie

MANSFIELD, Mass. – Freshman Zaywhon Johnson of the Saint Anselm College football team was named Northeast-10 Conference Rookie of the Week on Monday. It is the first Rookie of the Week award for the Hawks since the 2015 season.

Johnson recorded two interceptions for Saint Anselm in Saturday’s 23-7 loss to the University of New Haven. The standout performance was his team’s first two-interception game since Carroll Bailey accomplished the feat on Sept. 26, 2015 at American International.

In addition to his interceptions, Johnson also racked up four solo tackles on the afternoon and added a pass break-up for the Hawks. He had 35 yards in interception-return yardage.

Johnson appeared in three games, recording six solo tackles. He ranks third in the Northeast-10 with 10 kick returns for 192 yards, averaging 19.2 yards per return.

Saint Anselm hits the road for its next two games, taking on Stonehill on  Saturday before journeying to American International on Sept. 30.
