Heneghan collects Ivy award

HANOVER — Dartmouth quarterback Jack Heneghan was selected as the Ivy League Offensive Player of the Week for his performance in the Big Green’s 28-27 victory over Yale on Saturday at Memorial Field.

A 6-foot-4, 230-pound senior from Atherton, Calif., Heneghan shook off a bad first half to rally Dartmouth from a 21-point deficit in the largest come-from-behind win in the program’s history. After halftime, he threw for 276 yards and three touchdowns, the last of which came on fouth down at the 15-yard line with 34 seconds to play. He also ran the ball three times for 32 yards during the decisive drive to keep Dartmouth’s hopes alive.

Heneghan completed 24 of 42 passes for 314 yards — his fifth career 300-yard game — and the three scores, plus ran for 33 yards on eight carries. His first touchdown pass set the tone at the start of the second half, a 30-yard strike to Drew Hunnicutt that capped a 91-yard drive that lasted six plays. Dartmouth still trailed by 13 when it got the ball at its own 10 with 7:24 to play, and Heneghan quickly guided the Green the length of the field in just five plays, ending with a 40-yard bomb to junior Dylan Mellor.

For the season, Heneghan has completed 71-of-110 passes (64.5 percent, 16th nationally) for 731 yards and seven touchdowns with one interception.
