Londonderry Lancers

Londonderry put a stranglehold on the final playoff spot in the Division I South/West cluster by beating Merrimack 21-0 Friday night.

Londonderry received second-half touchdown runs of 3 and 7 yards from senior running back Jeff Wiedenfeld and raised its record to 5-1. The Lancers also scored on an 11-yard pass from quarterback Mike McAlister to slot back Tyler Kayo.

The Lancers can clinch a postseason berth by beating Alvirne this weekend.

Merrimack (3-3), which could have moved past Londonderry in the standings with a victory, turned the ball over four times (three fumbles). In addition to the fumble recoveries, Londonderry’s Shane MacEachern intercepted a pass near the goal line after Merrimack drove to the Londonderry 15-yard line late in the first half.

Wiedenfeld gained 125 yards and 20 carries. The Lancers also received 74 yards rushing from McAlister, who ran the ball 19 times.
