Chatman earns CAA award

RICHMOND, Va. – DeUnte Chatman a redshirt freshman running back on the University of New Hampshire football team, was named the CAA Football Rookie of the Week on Monday.

Chatman was also honored as the Madness CAA Offensive Player of the Week by College Sports Madness.

Chatman rushed for a career-high 187 yards and two touchdowns on 22 carries in UNH’s 40-17 victory against Towson University at Wildcat Stadium on Saturday. With UNH’s top two tailbacks sidelined by injury, Chatman made the most of his first career start by averaging 8.5 yards per carry and scoring on runs of 26 and 23 yards.

On New Hampshire’s second possession of the game, Chatman accounted for all 35 yards on three carries and gave UNH a 7-0 lead at 7:45 of the first quarter with a 26-yard TD run. He finished the first quarter with 61 yards on seven carries.

Chatman ran the ball three times for 32 yards, including a 24-yard scamper on third-and-8 from the Towson 39, to set up UNH’s next TD drive that gave the Wildcats a 13-3 lead at 11:59 of the second quarter. Chatman carried the ball seven more times in the second quarter for 59 yards to increase his game total to 120 yards on 14 carries.

On the opening drive of the third quarter, Chatman had four carries for 34 yards and he capped the drive with a 23-yard TD.

Chatman gained 187 yards on 22 carries through three quarters and did not see action in the final 15 minutes.
