Shea out at Spaulding

John Shea will not return for a third season as Spaulding High School’s varsity football coach. Shea was told after the regular season that his contract would not be renewed.

Spaulding went 1-8 this season and had a 1-17 record in Shea’s two seasons. Spaulding ended a 28-game losing streak when it beat Manchester Memorial this season.

Shea was Spaulding’s eighth head coach since Hugo Bolin resigned in 1998 after guiding the Red Raiders to five state championships in 34 seasons as head coach. Spaulding has a 46-150 record since Bolin stepped down.

The Red Raiders haven’t won a state championship since they beat Trinty, 28-21, for the Division I title in 1990.
