Dartmouth names captains

HANOVER — Nickelback Kyran McKinney-Crudden, linebacker Jack Traynor and offensive lineman Matt Kaskey were announced as captains for the 2018 season at halftime of the Green-White game Saturday as Dartmouth concluded its spring football practice.

Freshman Ethan Maenza had a 54-yard catch-and-run from classmate Derek Kyler for one touchdown and caught a 19-yard strike from sophomore Jared Gerbino in stride in the middle of the end zone on the final play to highlight the non-tackling, non-scoring affair.

Sophomore Jake Pallotta completed 15-of-21 passes for 123 yards without an interception; Kyler was 9-of-14 with one TD and one interception; and Gerbino was 9-of-18 for 69 yards with one touchdown and one interception. Gerbino also led all ball carriers with seven runs for 46 yards, including a 27-yard burst.

“All of them have improved,” Dartmouth coach Buddy Teevens said. “Pallotta did a nice job with the two-minute drive. Kyler did a good job working with the ones and the twos and moving the team. And I thought Gerbino showed he can throw the ball. There was progress across the board.

“The QBs were consistent, but we had two turnovers, both in the red zone, which we can’t have. It is decision-making.”

Freshman Dakari Falconer ran seven times for 33 yards with Maenza, junior Drew Hunnicutt, junior Hunter Hagdorn and freshman J.J. Jones III each catching four passes.

Sophomore Kalle Wagner, a member of the ski team kicking for the first year, booted a 26-yard field goal and was 3-for-3 on extra points.

Sophomore Ryan Roegge and classmate Darren Stanley both had the interceptions.

In addition to introducing the captains for next fall, the most improved at each position were announced:

Tight End: Connor Rempel
Linebacker: Andrew Lemkuil
Defensive Line: Seth Simmer
Nickel/Corner: D.J. Terry
Safety: Ryan Roegge
Specialist: Kalle Wagner
Strength: Nigel Alexander

Dartmouth, which finished 8-2 last fall, kicks off the 2018 season on Sept. 15 when Georgetown of the Patriot League invades Memorial Field.
