Dartmouth/Yale made for TV

HANOVER— The Ivy League and ESPN announced that six Ivy League football games will be televised on ESPN networks this fall, including the Dartmouth game at Yale on ESPNU. The television package, part of the Ivy League’s partnership with ESPN, will feature five games on ESPNU on Friday nights, beginning with Harvard at Brown on Sept. 21, with the sixth and final game being Yale at Harvard at Fenway Park on Saturday, Nov. 17.

The Big Green game at Yale, originally scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 6, has been moved to Friday, Oct. 5 at 6 p.m. to accommodate the broadcast. This will be the first Dartmouth football game to be televised on an ESPN network since 1990, and the sixth overall. The Big Green are 2-3 all-time in games televised by ESPN.

“Our Friday night games have always brought significant visibility to the league, and we anticipate the same in our first season with ESPN,” Ivy League Executive Director Robin Harris said. “Complementing this schedule with the league’s regional and digital presence will once again produce extensive exposure opportunities to showcase the storied tradition, modern success and continued impact on the game.”

In total, all 41 Ivy League home games will appear across a variety of ESPN platforms. Additionally, the league will announce games that will also be available through its number of regional television partners later this summer. Specific platforms and networks will be released once the platforms become finalized.

New this season, the league will conclude its schedule with a quartet of regional rivalries: Penn at Princeton, Cornell at Columbia, Yale at Harvard and Brown at Dartmouth.

Dartmouth finished the 2017 football season with an 8-2 overall record and 5-2 mark in league play, tying for second in the standings, and was the only team to beat the conference champion, Yale, in a thrilling 28-27 homecoming victory that featured the largest deficit overcome (21 points) in a win in program history. The Big Green open up the 2018 campaign at home against Georgetown on Sept. 15 with a 10-game win streak against opponents outside the Ivy League on the line.
