Laube carries Long Island

Running back Dylan Laube, who will join the University of New Hampshire football program as a freshman this summer, ran for three touchdowns and was named the game’s Most Outstanding Player as Long Island beat New York City 28-27 Friday night in the 23rd Empire Challenge at Hofstra’s Stuart Stadium.

Laube scored on runs of 5 and 1 yard in the second quarter, and scored on a 1-yard run that helped Long Island take a 21-14 lead in the third quarter. Two of his three TD runs came out of the Wildcat formation.

Laube gained 76 yards on 13 carries, returned three kickoffs for 50 yards and caught to passes for 25 yards.

Laube, who also played high school lacrosse, played running back/defensive back at Westhampton Beach High School last season. He helped Westhampton to a 12-0 record and the program’s only Long Island Class III championship as a senior.

During his senior season Laube rushed for 2,680 yards on 249 carries. He gained 227 yards and scored six touchdowns in the Class III championship game. He rushed for 6,495 yards on 687 carries and caught 64 passes for 1,234 yards during his high school career. He also scored five touchdowns on kickoff returns.

Laube was the co-winner of the Carl A. Hansen Award, which is given to the top high school football player from Long Island.
