CHaD practice: Day 6

Notes from the sixth day of practice for this year’s CHaD New Hampshire East/West All-Star Game, which will be played Saturday (1 p.m. kickoff) at Wildcat Stadium on the University of New Hampshire campus:

East head coach Craig Kozens cancelled Thursday’s practice because of the wet conditions. “We figured going into a gym for a walk-through at this point wouldn’t help us,” he said. “If it was going to rain Saturday we’d be practicing outside, but there’ zero chance of rain.: … The West will practice indoors at the Bedford SportsPlex from 4-6 p.m. … West coach Eric Brown (Concord) on place-kicker Moises Celaya being elected a team captain. “He does his thing every day at practice and the kids watch what he does. The kids really respect him. He’s a well-liked kid. Since he’s a kicker I guess it was a bit of a surprise. Originally he was listed as a linebacker on the roster and he came to me and said, ‘Coach, I just kick.’ I told him, ‘I know what you do.’ He’s very good. … Mark Tilton is one of eight assistant coaches who have been on the East staff for each of the four years Kozens has served as head coach. Tilton coached basketball and football at New Hampton Prep and met Kozens when Kozens  became a football coach at the school. Tilton has also scouted for Kozens at Laconia. “He coached Berlin when Berlin had football,” Kozens said. “He’s been my mentor all the way through.” … Tilton has agreed to buy breakfast for any media member who covers Friday’s practice at UNH. … Bedford’s Ben Lacombe, an offensive tackle, suffered a knee injury in practice Wednesday and was scheduled to get his knee looked at by medical personnel Thursday. … Brown said in terms of preparing for the opponent his staff is game-planning like Saturday’s contest is one of his Concord High games. “We looked at what they have,” he said. “We also looked at what they’ve done in the past, since Craig has coached in the game before. We also looked at what he does at Laconia, and I’m sure they’ve looked at Concord tapes.”
