Top talent competing in North Regional

Suffield Academy’s Tyler Van Dyke is among the talented skill players expected to participate in Saturday’s Northeast 7-on-7 North Regional at Exeter High School.

Van Dyke is a 6-foot-4, 212-pound junior quarterback who holds scholarship offers from Boston College, Kentucky, UMass, Michigan, N.C. State, Rutgers, Syracuse and Vanderbilt. One recruiting web site lists Van Dyke as the No. 8 pro-style quarterback prospect in the country from the Class of 2020.

Juniors Jaden Dottin, a 6-foot-3, 185-pound wide receiver, and Justin Barron, a 6-foot-4, 190-pound athlete, will provide Van Dyke with a couple a weapons to work with Saturday. Both players are listed as three-star recruits by 24/7 Sports. Dottin has offers from Boston College, UConn, Duke, Penn State, Howard and UMass. Barron has received offers from Boston College and Rhode Island.

Exeter is one of three regional sites for the Northeast 7-on-7 tournament. The South Regional will be held Sunday at Oliver Ames High School in North Easton, Mass., and the East Regional will take place July 22 at St. John’s Prep in Danvers, Mass. Forty teams will be competing at each regional.

Two teams from each regional and four wildcard teams will advance to the New England championship, which will be played July 26 at Xaverian Brothers High School in Westwood, Mass.

The North is the only regional that will feature representatives from all six New England states. Here’s how the North Regional field breaks down:

Thornton Academy, which is located in Saco, may be the team to beat in Maine next season. The Trojans have a talented junior quarterback in Will Mitchell. His top targets will be WR/DB C.J. Labreck and WR/TB Anthony Bracamonte. Bracamonte could be one of the top deep threats at the tournament.

Amesbury head coach Colin McQueen is a teacher at Sanborn Regional and played high school football for Bill Ball at Exeter. He is entering his second season as Amesbury’s head coach. His father, Kevin McQueen, has guided Exeter to the last two NHIAA Division I state championships in baseball.

Many of the athletes who will compete in Saturday’s North Regional will also be attending the New Hampshire Football Showcase on July 21 at Bedford High School. The New Hampshire Football Showcase is in its fifth season and was designed to create added exposure for athletes in northern New England who have the ability and desire to play college football.
