Shrine Practice: Day 2

The New Hampshire Shrine Maple Sugar Bowl team practice in full pads for the first time during Monday morning’s practice. New Hampshire coach Pat Riberdy said his team exited that workout injury-free. “The kids were itching to do it, but we kept it light,” Riberdy said. “Quick whistle .. that sort of thing.” …  New Hampshire is scheduled to have three practices Tuesday as well. … Riberdy said defensive tackles Jack Haslam (Exeter) and Chris Francis (Beford) have been among the defensive players who have stood out early in the week. “Up front we feel pretty good,” Riberdy said. “The defense is really strong all the way around.” … New Hampshire is scheduled to select its captains tonight. One of the captains will be the team’s top fundraiser. The players and coaches will vote on the others. … This year’s game will be played Saturday at Castleton State (Vt.) University (5:30 p.m kickoff). Although Vermont has won the last two games, New Hampshire leads the series 47-14-2.  … Tuesday is media day for both teams. … Riberdy said he’s glad he decided to put a kicker on his roster. Winnacunnet’s Kevin Gagnon will handle the punting and place-kicking duties. “We took a good look at him on film and decided we had to have him,” Riberdy said. “We wanted to try to avoid a return (on kickoffs). What I didn’t know is he’s as good a punter as he is a kicker. … Aiden Cahill (Stevens) has been working out with the first offense at center. … R.J. Jenkins (Nashua North) and Ryan Yanuszewski (Campbell) are expected to be New Hampshire’s primary ball carriers. The New Hampshire offense will operate out of the Pistol formation.
