MASCAC honors two PSU players

PLYMOUTH –Two Plymouth State players, junior running back David Hamilton and sophomore kicker Jeremy Martin, were named to the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Football Weekly Honor Roll after their performances in Saturday’s season-opening, 38-0 win over Castleton University.

Hamilton cleared the century mark with 109 yards on the ground on 22 carries (5 yards per carry), including a 15-yard TD run late in the second quarter as the Panthers extended their lead to 14-0. He added a 38-yard touchdown reception a few minutes later to push the margin to 21-0 at the half.

Martin also had a strong game averaging 62.0 yards per kickoff (434 total kickoff yards), including a pair of touchbacks. Although the PSU offense wasn’t forced to punt often, he totaled 105 yards on three punts (35.0 yards/punt) and pinned the Spartans inside their own 20-yard line once.

Plymouth State (1-0) will take advantage of an early bye week to prepare for the MASCAC opener on Sept. 15. The Panthers will welcome rival Western Connecticut State to Currier Field for a 1 p.m kickoff.
