Londonderry scored on the game’s first play from scrimmage and never trailed in its 38-34 triumph over previously unbeaten Winnacunnet on Friday night.

Londonderry quarterback Evan Cormier completed 16 of 22 passes for 223 yards and three touchdowns, and also ran for 47 yards and a TD in the victory, which improved Londonderry’s record to 5-1.  Cormier connected with Alex Tsetsilas for a 57-yard TD pass on the game’s first play, and also tossed touchdown passes to Jake Holland (19 yards) and Jeff Wiedenfeld (19 yards).

The Lancers also scored on a 16-yard fumble return by Matt Pemberton, and a 27-yard field goal from Zack Chau.

Winnacunnet began its final possession on its own 17-yard line with 2:32 to play, but turned the ball over on downs after picking up one first down. The loss ended Winnacunnet’s 18-game winning streak. The Warriors, last year’s Division I champions, were ranked No. 2 in this week’s Union Leader Power Poll.

Londonderry, the No. 6 team in the Power Poll, came up with a sack on Winnacunnet’s final offensive play, and took over on downs with 1:22 left.
