Dover stretched its winning streak to three games, raised its record to 4-3 and remained in the Division I playoff hunt by beating Exeter 28-18 in Dover on Friday night.

Senior quarterback Ty Vitko ran for two touchdowns, passed for a TD and returned a fumble 55 yards for another score. Exeter (3-4) scored the game’s first 10 points, but Dover took the lead for good by scoring twice in the final four minutes of the second quarter. Vitko’s 4-yard TD run as time expired in the first half handed the Green Wave a 14-10 lead at halftime.

Vitko completed 10 of 15 passes for 132 yards, including a 46-yard TD pass to Dylan Murphy that helped trim Exeter’s lead to 10-7. Vitko’s fumble return pushed Dover’s lead to 21-10 late in the third quarter. After Exeter pulled within three points, 21-18, the Green Wave responded with a TD on its next possession. Vitko capped the drive with a 1-yard TD plunge with 5:57 to play. The touchdown was set up by Luc Normandeau’s 43-yard run.

It was the first time Dover has beaten Exeter since the 2004 season, when the Green Wave knocked the Blue Hawks out of the Division II playoff hunt with a 27-14 victory at Exeter on the regular season’s final weekend. Friday night’s victory eliminated Exeter from playoff contention this season as well.
