Stevens, the No. 7 seed in Division III, upset second-seeded Trinity, 7-0, Saturday night in the Division III quarterfinals at Gill Stadium. Defensive coordinator Bill Gobin put together a game plan that held Trinity to 78 yards of offense. The Pioneers didn’t complete a pass in the game (0 for 9). Stevens also came away with two turnovers, a fumble and an interception.

Stevens quarterback Quentin Bicknell ran for 92 yards and completed 5 of his 6 passes for 92 yards. The Cardinals drove the ball 98 yards on 15 plays for the game’s only score, a 21-yard TD run from Keaghan McAllister. Trinity beat Stevens 39-6 during the regular season.

Stevens seems to save its best football for the playoffs. The Cardinals entered the postseason as the No. 6 seed last season, when they knocked off third-seeded Somersworth 33-6 in the quarterfinals. Two years ago Stevens upset Campbell, Monadnock and Inter-Lakes/Moultonborough in the playoffs to win the Division III title.

Stevens (6-4) will play at third-seeded Campbell (8-2) in Saturday’s semifinals.
