Auffant waves goodbye

Two weeks before the 2018 NHIAA football season began, Ron Auffant told a select few that this would be his final season as Winnacunnet High School’s football coach. Of course he had said that in previous seasons as well.

Auffant followed through this time, and announced his resignation to the players in the Winnacunnet program Thursday.

Winnacunnet was 92-64-1 in Auffant’s 15 seasons as head coach. The Warriors posted the program’s only undefeated season last year, when they won the Division I championship. Auffant also guided Winnacunnet to a victory over Bedford in the 2012 Division II championship game.

Winnacunnet also reached the Division II championship game in 2004, 2009 and 2010, but lost to Bishop Guertin each time.

Auffant replaced Ty Seabrooke as Winnacunnet’s head coach in 2004 after serving as an assistant coach on Seabrooke’s staff.

The Warriors finished this season with a 6-4 record after starting 5-0. Winnacunnet lost to Salem 33-14 in Saturday’s Division I quarterfinals.
