Raycraft announces resignation

Bill Raycraft, athletic director and head football coach at Windham High School since its inception, has announced he is stepping aside from both positions effective June 30, 2019.

Raycraft announced to his players earlier today that he would not be returning to Windham High School for his 11th season as the program’s varsity head coach.

Raycraft said the expectations for his job have changed to the point where he cannot perform the functions of the job to his standards of excellence. He said the community of Windham demands and deserves the highest quality in its leaders and is unable to contribute in a situation where he feels the community’s expectations will not be met.

“I want to be the best I can be at my job and going forward felt it was getting harder to do that with the time this profession takes,” Raycraft said. “I love my position, the students, fellow coaches, teachers, boosters and parents, but at some point I have to look at what is best for all of us.”

Raycraft said he will begin his search for his next step in his career in earnest. “It’s an unknown, but I feel the time is right,” Raycraft said. “The athletic programs thus far have successfully transitioned well into competitive successful Division I teams and the football program has positioned itself into a contender for next season.

“I’d like to thank all of those in the community that have supported me and our programs as we got them started. I’ve spent the last eleven years in this community and it truly feels like home to me and I’ve given it my heart and soul. Not always easy, but we all wanted what was best for the students and we found ways to get it done. The passion and enthusiasm for athletics in Windham is contagious and it’s been gratifying to be a small part of its success and certainly something I’ll miss.”
