Brosmer earns CAA honor

RICHMOND, Va. – Max Brosmer (Roswell, Ga.), a freshman quarterback for University of New Hampshire, was named CAA Football Rookie of the Week on Monday.

Brosmer threw two touchdown passes, ran for a TD and led UNH on a seven-play, 60-yard drive that culminated with a game-winning 29-yard field goal as time expired to lift the Wildcats to a 27-24 victory against the University of Rhode Island at Wildcat Stadium on Saturday night.

Brosmer completed 2 of 3 passes for 47 yards and carried the ball twice for 14 yards on the game-winning drive. He finished the game 12 of 23 for 184 yards and the two scores in the air, as well as six rushes for 11 yards. He was intercepted once.

After URI tied the score at 24 with 1:30 remaining, the Wildcats began their drive at the UNH 28. An incomplete pass and 6-yard completion set up a third-and-4 situation. Brosmer pulled the ball down and scampered 8 yards to the UNH 42. On the next play, he found Brian Espanet (Hopedale, Mass.) down the middle of the field for a 41-yard gain that advanced the ball to the URI 17.

Following a Rams’ timeout with 33 seconds on the clock, Brosmer rushed for 6 yards and New Hampshire called a time out with 14 to play. He took a knee on the next play to position the ball for the game-winning field goal by Jason Hughes (Atkinson, N.H.).

Brosmer led the Wildcats to a touchdown on two of their first three possessions. On the second play of the game from scrimmage, he hit Malik Love (Alcoa, Tenn.) on a deep crossing route for a 78-yard score and 7-0 lead.

The next TD capped a 16-play, 75-yard drive that consumed 9:05 off the clock and ended with Brosmer’s 2-yard keeper.
