NHFR TEAM OF THE WEEK
Alvirne Broncos

Facing the possibility of a 1-2 start in what may be the state’s toughest conference (Division II South), the Broncos scored with 19 seconds remaining to knock off previously unbeaten Souhegan 23-22 Saturday night in Hudson.

Running back Alex Giuffrida carried the ball 28 times for 156 yards and three touchdowns in the victory, but it was his successful run for the two-point conversion that followed Alvirne’s final TD that handed the Broncos the one-point win.

Souhegan looked like it would raise its record to 3-0 when it scored to take a 22-15 lead with four minutes to play, but Alvirne cashed in on its final possession and then — as it usally does — rolled the dice on the two-point conversion.

Alvirne, which was coming off a one-point loss to St. Thomas, improved its record to 2-1. Souhegan is also 2-1.
