CAA honors Brosmer, Sanborn

RICHMOND, Va. – Drew Sanborn (Amherst, N.H.) and Max Brosmer (Roswell, Ga.) of the University of New Hampshire were honored as Special Teams Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week, respectively, by CAA Football on Monday.

It is the first CAA weekly accolade for Sanborn. Brosmer was previously distinguished as the conference Rookie of the Week on Sept. 23.

The duo helped UNH record a 20-14 victory at 22nd-ranked Stony Brook University at LaValle Stadium on Saturday. The Wildcats, winners of four straight with a 4-2 record and 3-0 CAA mark that is tied for best in the conference, returns to action Saturday at the University of Delaware.

Sanborn averaged 46.2 yards on four punts to mark his highest average in six games this season; it was the second-best single-game punting average of his career to the 49.7 average at Colorado.

Three of the senior’s four punts pinned Stony Brook inside the 20-yard line and two kicks were longer than 50 yards, including a season long of 54. It was the second time Sanborn had two punts of 50+ yards in a game; the other time was the aforementioned game at Colorado.

Brosmer completed 16 of 26 passes for 196 yards and two touchdowns for a season-high passer-efficiency rating of 150.25; the 61.5 completion percentage also marked a season best and the two TD passes matched a season high.

With UNH trailing 14-10, the freshman quarterback engineered a 13-play, 73-yard drive that culminated in a 20-yard touchdown pass to Brian Espanet (Hopedale, Mass.) that gave the Wildcats a 17-14 lead at 9:32 of the fourth quarter. On that drive, he completed 5 of 7 passes for 60 yards.

Brosmer connected with Espanet on a 15-yard pass play to give the ‘Cats a 7-0 lead at 5:16 of the first quarter. On that 9-play, 80-yard drive, he was 4 of 7 for 35 yards.
