PSU comes up empty

PLYMOUTH  Senior Matt Shea (Atkinson, N.H.) led all players with 13 tackles, but Plymouth State University was humbled by Framingham State University, 34-0, in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) football game at Currier Field on Saturday afternoon.

Framingham State senior quarterback Adam Wojenski (Stratford, Conn.) finished 35-of-38 for 283 yards and four touchdowns, and the Panthers were limited to just five first downs on the day.

The Panthers fell to 5-2 (3-2 MASCAC), while Framingham State improved to 4-2 and 4-0 in conference play.

How it Happened.

  • The Rams took the opening kickoff nearly 40 yards to set up their first drive. Seven plays later, Wojenski found junior Emmanuel Exilhomme (Roslindale, Mass.) for a 17-yard touchdown strike.
  • After trading three-and-outs, senior Nick Lancia (Bedford, N.Y.) picked up back-to-back 11-yard gains on the ground, but the Panthers were forced to punt.
  • Framingham State moved downfield on the ensuing possession, using 8:37 to cover 75 yards and Wojenski hit sophomore Austin Nunn (Bellingham, Mass.) for a six-yard score to make it 14-0 early in the second quarter.
  • Wojenski added a three yard TD pass to freshman Elijah Nichols (Burlington, N.J.) to cap a 16-play, 84-yard drive with less than two minutes before the half.
  • The Rams added touchdown drives on each of their first two possessions of the second half – first on a four-yard TD run from freshman Devaun Ford (Mashpee, Mass.) and later on Wojenski’s pass to sophomore William Jean (South Boston, Mass.).

Inside the Numbers:

  • Lancia finished with 46 yards rushing on eight carries, while senior David Hamilton (West Deptford, N.J.) added 15 yards on eight rushes.
  • Ford totaled 69 yards on the ground for the Rams.
  • Eight of Shea’s 13 tackles were of the solo variety. Freshman Joey Cassella (North Yarmouth, Maine) also had eight solo tackles and nine total stops.
  • Plymouth State recognized its 2019 Athletic Hall of Fame class during a brief halftime ceremony, ahead of the formal induction later this evening.
