Dartmouth remains unbeaten

HANOVER — Derek Kyler passed for two touchdowns and Jared Gerbino ran for two scores to help Dartmouth defeat Columbia 59-24 on Friday night to stay undefeated.

The Big Green (6-0, 3-0 Ivy League) scored 42 straight points after the Lions (2-4, 1-2) tied the game, 10-10, early in the second quarter. Gerbino’s first TD run gave Dartmouth the lead for good with 6:44 left in the second quarter and his second TD run made it 52-10 with 8:07 left in the third.

Columbia scored back-to-back touchdowns to cut the deficit to 52-24 before the end of the third, but Noah Roper’s 8-yard TD run capped the scoring with 1:14 left in the game.

Dartmouth extended its win streak to eight games, dating back to last year,

Dartmouth racked up a season-high 473 yards on just 51 plays — 273 on the ground, 200 through the air. It was the second time this season (and second time in the last 50 years) the Big Green has averaged more than 9 yards a play. And according to the Elias Sports Bureau, the Big Green became the first Ivy League team ever to score at least 21 points in the first half in six consecutive games.

Notes: The last time Dartmouth scored 59 points came in a 59-31 win over Cornell in 2007. … The 24 points by Columbia are the most allowed by a Dartmouth defense that entered the night leading the FCS at 8.2 per game. … The Big Green has won five of its six games by at least 29 points. … Buddy Teevens won his 102nd game, leaving him two behind the program record held by Bob Blackman … The Big Green has won 18 of its last 19 games.
