McKenzie lands in Massachusetts

Jermaine McKenzie resigned as Bishop Brady’s head coach last week, but he wasn’t without a coaching job for long.

McKenzie, who served as Bishop Brady’s head coach for the last two years, has been hired as the head coach at Ayer-Shirley Regional High School in Ayer, Mass.

After a 1-6 season in 2018, McKenzie guided the Green Giants to the Division IV playoffs last year as the No. 4 seed. Bishop Brady finished with a 4-4 record following a loss in the semifinals.

“I’m fired up to be joining the Ayer-Shirley football program and can’t wait to meet the kids and get started,” McKenzie said in a statement.

Ayer-Shirley posted a 1-9 record in 2019.

McKenzie has also spent time as an assistant coach at the following Massachusetts schools: Boston Latin, Boston Cathedral, Matignon, Blackstone-Millville and Cambridge Rindge & Latin, his alma mater.

McKenzie replaces Phil Marchengiani, who went 22-32 over five seasons at Ayer-Shirley after going 145-87-3 in 22 seasons at Marian High in Framingham.
