Plymouth State comes up empty

CASTLETON 13, PLYMOUTH STATE 0

CASTLETON, Vt.– Senior Manny Sanchez rushed for 58 yards and junior Cooper Varano (Manchester) made a team-high seven tackles, but Castleton University held Plymouth State University in check, topping the Panthers by a 13-0 score in the season opener for both teams at Dave Wolk Stadium on Saturday.

NEW HAVEN 30, FRANKLIN PIERCE 14

Sophomore quarterback Drew Campanale threw for 268 yards and junior EJ Burgess found the end zone twice, but the Franklin Pierce dropped a 30-14 decision to the host Chargers. Graduate student Dev Holmes caught a pair of touchdown passes in the win for New Haven.

MERRIMACK 55, SAINT ANSELM 23

MANCHESTER – Saint Anselm College opened its 2021 season with a 55-23 loss to NCAA Division I Merrimack College on Saturday at Warrior Stadium. Saint Anselm picked up 20 first downs, but Merrimack was able to control the game with nearly double the time of possession (37:44-to-22:16) and wear down the Hawks defensive unit.
