Normandeau honored by MASCAC

PLYMOUTH – Junior Luc Normandeau (Dover, N.H.) took home the first Plymouth State University football honors of the season as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) included Normandeau among those on the league’s Weekly Honor Roll for his play in PSU’s narrow 10-7 setback to Husson in the team’s home opener at Panther Field on Saturday.

Normandeau, a 6-foot-1 defensive back, recorded nine tackles (four solo) and came away with two interceptions as the Panthers dropped a heartbreaker when Husson scored the game-winning touchdown with 14 seconds to play.

His first interception came just before halftime. With the Eagles leading 3-0 and looking for more he dove forward for an interception at the PSU four-yard line to keep the deficit at three points.

His second interception came late in the fourth quarter. With Plymouth State nursing a 7-3 lead he jumped a route to halt the Husson drive, giving the Panthers possession with just under six minutes to play. Husson was able to get the ball back, however, and executed a perfect two-minute drill to steal the win.

Normandeau’s two interceptions rank first in the MASCAC.

Plymouth State opens league play on Saturday (Sept. 18) when the Panthers visit Bridgewater State for a 3:00 p.m. clash with the Bears.
