Bishop Guertin Cardinals

Junior quarterback/defensive back Matt Santosuosso rushed for 132 yards and a touchdown on 25 carries to lead BG over Salem on Saturday night. Salem (1-1) entered the game as the No. 1 team in the Union Leader Power Poll.

Santosuosso also completed 3 of 7 passes for 63 yards, and made a game-high 12 tackles.

The Cardinals took the lead when they recorded a safety in the third quarter. Santosuosso increased the lead on a 1-yard touchdown quarterback keeper that helped make it 9-0 with 4:57 left in the third quarter. Charlie Bellavance (18 carries, 62 yards) scored BG’s second TD on an 11-yard run with 5:18 left in regulation.

Salem received two late touchdowns from running back Aidan McDonald.

Bishop Guertin, which opened the season with a 34-13 win over Keene, raised its record to 2-0. The Cardinals were the No. 8 team in last week’s Power Poll.
