Kyler, Dartmouth open with win

DARTMOUTH 28, VALPARAISO 18

VALPARAISO, Ind. — In Dartmouth’s first football game in two years, the Big Green overcame a bit of rust and several miscues to earn a 28-18 victory at Valparaiso (0-3) on Saturday afternoon at Brown Field. Fifth-year quarterback Derek Kyler threw for 177 yards and three touchdowns, one of which went to senior running back Zack Bair, who also ran 11 yards for the game’s final score, to lead the Big Green (1-0) to its 11th straight season-opening victory and 17th consecutive non-conference win.

BRIDGEWATER STATE 27, PLYMOUTH STATE 24

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The Plymouth State University football team scored three second half touchdowns, but Bridgewater State University held on late for a 27-24 win in the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) opener for both teams Saturday afternoon at Swenson Field.

RINDGE — The Franklin Pierce University football team opened the second Northeast-10 Conference campaign in program history on Saturday night, as the Ravens welcomed American International to a bustling Sodexo Field. Junior Jayson Demild threw for 300 yards and four scores, as the Yellow Jackets used two touchdowns each in the second and third quarters to open up a gap and deal Franklin Pierce a 38-19 defeat. Sophomore Drew Campanale threw for 160 yards and a touchdown in defeat.

SOUTHERN CONN. 34, SAINT ANSELM 31

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Saint Anselm College football team rallied to tie the score at 31 in the final two minutes of Friday’s contest at Southern Connecticut State University, but the host Owls walked-off with a 34-31 victory thanks to a game-winning field goal on an untimed down with zeroes on the clock.
