Wilson collects MASCAC honor

PLYMOUTH – Following a career-best performance in a win at Framingham State University on Saturday, sophomore Evan Wilson (Derry, N.H.) was honored by the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) with Defensive Player of the Week recognition.

Wilson led the PSU defense with career highs of 13 tackles and 11 solo stops as the Panthers held off Framingham State by a 14-9 margin to stay unbeaten on the year. Wilson anchored a Plymouth State defensive unit that limited the Rams to one score in three trips to the red zone. Trailing 14-7 with time running out in the fourth quarter, Framingham State had first-and-goal from the PSU 9-yard line and second-and-goal from the 6-yard line, but the Panthers’ defense forced three straight incomplete passes before the offense ran out the clock for the win.

Through four games, Wilson leads the defense with 23 solo tackles and 40 total tackles, including a team-high three tackles for loss. His play is a large reason Plymouth State leads the league in scoring defense, allowing 12.5 points per game.

PSU (4-0, 2-0 MASCAC) squares off against Western Connecticut State as part of Homecoming Weekend on Saturday (Oct. 8). Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
