TOP 10 NHIAA GAMES FROM 2022
No. 8: Pelham 28, Souhegan 21

This game featured the teams that advanced to the Division II championship game, but this matchup was more competitive than the second contest.

Pelham quarterback Jake Travis broke a 21-21 tie when he scored on a 3-yard run with 32 seconds to play to help the Pythons pull out a 28-21 victory and raise their record to 8-0.

Travis also passed for two touchdowns in the win. He found Alex Carroll for a 26-yard TD pass, and then tossed a 40-yard TD pass to Jake Cawthron. Both TD passes came in the first half. Travis  completed 5 of 6 passes for 100 yards in the win.

Souhegan quarterback Romy Jain completed 17 of 34 passes for 329 yards and three touchdowns. Souhegan’s Madux McGrath caught eight passes for 119 yards.

Souhegan, which trailed 14-7 at halftime, scored its first TD on a 70-yard pass from Jain to Steven Reynolds, who finished the game with three receptions for 120 yards and two TDs.

Reynolds helped Souhegan (7-1) tie the game when he caught a 30-yard TD pass from Jain with 1:22 left in the third quarter. Joe Bernasconi’s kick made it a 14-14 game.

Pelham regained the lead on a 3-yard run by fullback Ethan Demmons with 10:10 to play, but Souhegan pulled even again when Jain found Connor Cassidy for a 40-yard TD pass with 6:01 to play.

That set the stage for Travis, who capped Pelham’s final possession with the 3-yard TD run.

Pelham beat Souhegan 35-6 in the rematch to win the Division II title.
