UNH extends offer to Miles

University of New Hampshire recruiting coordinator Ed Borden met with Londonderry High School’s Ty Miles following Saturday’s New Hampshire Football Showcase at Saint Anselm College. Minutes later Miles, a 6-foot-4, 290-pound lineman, had a full scholarship offer from UNH.

“(Borden) pulled out the phone, called Coach (Rick) Santos, the UNH head coach, and coach Santos offered me a full ride and described how they want to keep the best of the best in New Hampshire,” Miles explained. “That’s pretty much how it went down. It felt good to get it.”

Miles was one of 93 players who participated in Saturday’s event, which allows high school players to perform football-related drills and activities in front of college coaches. Twenty-seven colleges registered for this year’s New Hampshire Football Showcase.

Miles, who will be a senior at Londonderry next season, missed most of his junior year with a knee injury. He said UNH was one of the first schools that began recruiting him.

“Coach Lauzon (Londonderry coach Jimmy Lauzon) told me to come here, be me, work hard and hope for the best,” Miles said. “I felt great moving around. No issues there. Trying to stay fully healthy for the upcoming season so there’s some restrictions with camps, but as far as clearance goes I’m full go.

Miles also has scholarship offers from Sacred Heart and the University of Rhode Island. He said he’s also been hearing from Holy Cross regularly.

“I love New Hampshire, home grown … everything like that,” Miles said. “I love the love from here and there is a special soft spot in my heart for it (New Hampshire), so we’ll see how it goes.”
