Shrine Camp: Day 1

70th Shrine Maple Sugar Bowl

The Vermont and New Hampshire Shrine Maple Sugar Bowl teams reported to Castleton (Vt.) University on Sunday. This year’s game will be be played Saturday (11:30 a.m.) at Castleton. … Plymouth coach Chris Sanborn is New Hampshire’s head coach. Greg Balch of Windsor is Vermont’s head coach. … Sanborn said all 38 players on the New Hampshire roster reported. … New Hampshire had two practices Sunday. “We split them half offense, half defense each practice,” he said. “We went just helmets the first practice and then shells the second practice. We had a plan coming in what plays we wanted to get in and in what order. We’re going to work from the ground up. What we get in, we get in. We’re gonna get our base plays in and if we get the other stuff in that’s great, but it’s a short week.” … New Hampshire has three practices scheduled Monday, the first of which will be in full pads. “We have a lot more of our playbook to get in, but right now the biggest question is where we want to play guys and what to have them focus on,” Sanborn said. “We have some guys who just play one side of the ball, but some other guys we’re asking to learn both sides of the ball.” … New Hampshire will wear white jerseys with red numbers and white pants. Vermont’s jerseys are green with yellow numbers and white pants. … Concord’s Zach Doward and Kingswood’s Aiden Brierley will likely take most of the snaps at quarterback for New Hampshire. … There’s no limit on the number of formations each team can use. “The only rule is if you’re going to blitz you have to show it,” Sanborn said. … New Hampshire won last year’s game 7-0 and leads the series 50-16-2. … Tickets for Saturday’s game can be ordered online at www.shrinemaplesugarbowl.com.
