NE10 releases Coaches’ Poll

MANSFIELD, Mass. – The New Haven football program will enter the season as the Northeast-10 favorite based  on the NE10 Coaches’ Poll released on Thursday.

The Chargers collected six of eight first-place votes from opposing head coaches, tallying 48 points to take the top spot in the poll. New Haven was selected to play in the NCAA Championship for the third time in the last four seasons after an 8-2 regular season record, which included a 6-1 conference mark — with the only loss coming to NE10 regular season champion Assumption.

Assumption, the reigning NE10 champion, finished second in the poll with 43 points and a pair of first-place votes. It was a narrow 14-13 home victory over New Haven last October that helped the Greyhounds win the NE10 title for the first time since 2017. Assumption went on to lose an NCAA first-round game to Slippery Rock in November, while New Haven lost to Shepherd.

Bentley finished in third place in the poll (37 points), Pace was fourth (31), Saint Anselm was fifth (23), Southern Connecticut sixth (22) and Franklin Pierce was seventh (11) and American International eighth (9). New Haven, Assumption and Bentley have combined for five of the last seven NE10 titles.
