MASCAC honors Baker, Normandeau

PLYMOUTH – Seniors Luc Normandeau (Dover, N.H.) and Kyle Baker (Pelham, N.H.) were both honored by the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) with weekly recognition after helping the Plymouth State University football team to a 31-21 win over Massachusetts Maritime Academy on Saturday.

Normandeau took home Defensive Player of the Week honors, while Baker earned a spot on the Weekly Honor Roll.

Normandeau mathed a career-high with 12 tackles in the Panthers’ win. He set an early tone, forcing a fumble on the game’s second play from scrimmage to help PSU jump out to an early lead. Of his 12 tackles, 11 were solo. He also added a pass breakup on a third-and-long play to stop a Buccaneers’ drive.

Baker had a career day at wide receiver, hauling in a personal best eight catches for a career-high 80 yards, including a 20-yard TD reception. After the Panthers converted Normandeau’s forced fumble into a field goal, Mass. Maritime marched down field for a TD to jump in front. Baker had five catches on the ensuing 13-play, 69-yard drive, including his TD score. On fourth-and-two from the MMA 20-yard line, Baker got open along the right sideline, then made a move around a defender to get into the end zone and Plymouth State would stay in front the rest of the way.

The Panthers close out the season with a trip to defending champion UMass Dartmouth on Saturday. Kickoff at Cressy Field is set for noon.
