Second-seeded Plymouth overcame a 14-7 halftime deficit to defeat third-seeded Souhegan 21-20 Saturday in the Division II semifinals. The victory came weeks after Souhegan beat Plymouth 49-6 during the regular season.
Plymouth (10-1) tied the game in the third quarter, but Souhegan (8-3) took a 20-14 lead – Plymouth blocked the PAT – with 4:27 remaining in the third. Plymouth began its game-winning drive on its own 36-yard line with 8:51 to play. That drive ended when quarterback Luke Diamond scored from a yard away with 2:35 remaining in regulation.
Souhegan, which scored on its first two possessions, turned the ball over on downs on its final possession.
Ben Valenti (30-yard run) and Robbie Thorne (2-yard run) also scored touchdowns for Plymouth, the No. 2 seed in the playoffs. Caedon Manseau kicked all three PATs.
Souhegan’s only regular season losses came against top-seeded Pelham and Division I Timberlane.
Plymouth will play Pelham (10-0) in Saturday’s Division II championship game at Nashua’s Stellos Stadium.
