Griffith headed to Louisville

Portsmouth’s Thor Griffith, an All-Ivy League defensive tackle from Harvard who entered the transfer portal last month, announced Sunday that he will transfer to Louisville. Griffith, who played for Portsmouth/Oyster River, had 33 1/2 tackles for loss and 13 1/2 sacks to go with 132 tackles in 30 games for Harvard.

Griffith runs a 4.95 40-yard dash and has bench-pressed 225 pounds 45 times. He said most of the people he spoke with told him that if he entered the 2024 NFL Draft he would likely be selected in the fifth-to-seventh round, so he’s rolling the dice, so to speak.

“(Entering the transfer portal) was definitely a decision based on my draft status,” he said. “If they said I was definitely going to be a Day 2 pick, second or third round, I most likely would have entered the draft. I feel like anything below a fifth-round pick, the job security is way less because the team didn’t invest too much into you. I wanted to use this to hopefully become a Day 1 or Day 2 guy in (the 2025) draft.

“They (NFL personnel) do have that stigma against FCS players where they’re like, ‘He hasn’t been against top-tier competition. He might not be able to keep up at the NFL level.’”

Griffith said he plans to remain at Harvard for the spring semester and is scheduled to graduate in May. He’s studying Economics.
