Windham falls in Ireland

Sophomore quarterback Adrian Bergman threw a touchdown pass and also ran for a TD, but the Windham High School football team opened its season with a 35-23 loss to the Maclay School of Tallahassee, Fla., Friday in Dublin, Ireland.

Windham trailed 10-0 at halftime, and Maclay took control by scoring 18 points in the third quarter. The game’s key play came in the third with Windham trailing 22-7. On a third-and-20 play, Maclay completed a 65-yard TD pass after the Jaguars had several chances for a sack.

Bergman tossed a 29-yard TD pass to Griffin Driscoll and scored on a 21-yard run. Both TDs came in the fourth quarter. Windham’s other TD came on Romeo Akin’s 25-yard run.

The game counted for the Maclay School, but will not be reflected in the NHIAA standings. Windham will begin its NHIAA schedule Sept. 7 with a home game against Timberlane.
